We docked early this morning in Trondheim, where six of us started the day with a brisk 2 1/2 mile walk. We went onboard and walked around the oldest ship in the line which was docked next to us. The Lofoten was built in 1964 and has been made into a throw-back luxury ship with small rooms, all wood furnishings, and a 5-course meal every night. If Agatha Christie had been Norwegian, she might have written Murder on the Lofoten instead of the Orient Express.
While in port, our little group got a tour of the bridge. These ships are quite technical nowadays. Instead of the big wooden wheels, the steering is done with small joy sticks. I got to sit in the nqavigation officer’s seat. Dan has a picture of it that he calls “very scary”.
After two disembarkation meetings we are ready for our last day on ship tomorrow. We get off shortly for a bus trip on The Atlantic Road, rejoining our ship at the next port for our last night onboard. It has been a lovely, relaxing voyage.
