Off the Ship

Yesterday was a lost day. The seas were really rough Friday night. Things were flying off the shelf in our cabin and the captain said the ship was at 17 degree angles at times. Didn’t sleep much as a result. We disembarked at about 2:30 pm and transferred to our hotel in Bergen where we had just enough time to do a little shopping, have dinner and go to bed very early as we had a 3 am wake-up call.
At 0-dark-thirty we headed to the airport. The world is still rocking for me after 10 days on a ship. Even though I got about six hours of good sleep at the hotel, I was out as soon as I got on the plane. Now we’re waiting at the airport in Amsterdam for our flight to St. Petersburg, Russia.
More later.
And..now we are in Russia. Our hostess is Olga and our bus driver Igor – really. We have a large room at a lovely hotel in the historic district. Once we checked in and unpacked a bit Olga took 4 of us on a brief walk pointing out important buildings in the area. Many of them were palaces of the boyars prior to the overthrow of Tsar Nicholas II. The palace where Rasputin was murdered is quite close. The food here is more what my Polish soul is used to – meat & potatoes (not fish).
Hopefully we’ll get a good night’s sleep with no rocking & rolling.
