The Word for the Day is Gray

We have been so lucky with weather that I think we got spoiled. Today is more the typical winter day that we both grew up with – gray, sunless and snow flurries. We went for a short walk ashore at 7 this morning while the ship made a brief stop in Harstad. When out of the wind, it was amazingly not too cold, considering how far north we are.
We did stay awake long enough last night to see the Trollfjord, have some Troll Soup (a hot rum beverage) in our troll mugs (purchased) and try a fish cake. Because of the avalanche and rock slide danger in winter, ships are prohibited from going into the fjords. To help compensate, our ship did a 360 while shining spotlights on the fjord entrance, which looked very narrow.
It is a good day for relaxing on board ship – reading and napping. Dan works on his pictures while I write this. I decided to have something other than fish for lunch today, so I opted for spaghetti. Good thing because the menus on the table show we are having Arctic char as the main course for dinner😊
The ship had a guest lecturer from Norway’s space agency who gave an excellent talk on the Northern Lights. He seems very popular, kind of like the Neil DeGrasse Tyson of Norway. An astrophysicist who can actually explain things so we lay folks can understand! Tonight’s Lights forecast is for very good activity, but unfortunately the weather forecast is not so good so we probably won’t see anything.
By the time we got to Tromsø it was snowing – nice heavy fluffy flakes. We visited 2 museums then 5 of us went to this quaint little pub to sample beer from the northernmost brewery in the world. A couple of us channeled our inner children and made snow angels. Fun in northern Norway!
