Rock & Roll (Oh, What a Night)

We are close to the northernmost point in Europe. During the night our ship passed through snow storms with high waves. A couple of times I thought I was going to slide right out of my berth! The snow came down quite heavily at times and the crew has had to shovel some of the decks periodically.
We were supposed to have a bus tour to the North Cape but because of the heavy snow and strong winds all excursions have been cancelled – avalanche danger. Instead, our little group will get off the ship for a walkabout here in the harbor town of Honningsväg.
Breakfast was a challenge with the ship pitching around. We grabbed our plates several times to keep them on the table and heard dishes crashing in other parts of the dining room. We are back to heavy seas again, so dinner will be another challenge to catch the plates.
Our educational experiences today have been about the Sami – the Norwegian indigenous people. I went to a presentation on how they herd reindeer (kind of like herding cattle in Texas but they use snowmobiles). I think reindeer is one of the items on the dinner buffet tonight, so I guess I’ll give it a try.
