On the Road Again…

So, I haven’t blogged during the first week of our long road trip. Just not enough time. Today’s will cover the whole week.
We drove from Houston to Ft. Smith, Arkansas, where we played golf on Tuesday. I did NOT enjoy the course. Even if your shot landed in the fairway, it would bounce off into the rough and we spent a LOT of time looking for our golf balls. Lost two each. Oh, well, maybe future courses on our trip will be nicer.
From Ft. Smith, we drove to St. Louis, MO. Dan thought we would be on Interstate the whole way, so we started with a half tank of gas. Oops, Maps routed us through the Ozarks, to the point where we thought we would never find a gas station. Finally got to one just before we hit Missouri. Neither of us had been up the Arch before, so we did that and included a boat ride on the Mississippi. Then we hit the road again for a stop in Springfield, IL at Lincoln’s home. Interesting visit. Our final stop was in Portage, IN for the night.
On Thursday morning we went to Indiana Dunes State Park and climbed a sand dune. Of course, all along the way Dan has been taking pictures. Thursday afternoon we arrived at Cheryl’s house in Grand Blanc, MI where we relaxed for a couple of days.
Saturday we hit the road again for Edmore/Six Lakes, MI – a return to my roots. Stopped to visit Janet Kohn for a bit. She’s 87 but still sharp and feisty. After that we had lunch at Maxfield’s in Wyman – another place we’ve never been – before ending up in Six Lakes for my 50th class reunion.
I had a great time – got to see lots of folks, many of whom haven’t been to prior reunions. After, we stayed with Sherrie and Randy at her childhood home right across from where the reunion was held. Lots of talking till late in the night with Sherrie, Julie, myself and our spouses. The guys got along great. Randy and Dan appreciated us dismissing them to the Flat River Salooon so they could watch the PGA tournament while we gabbed with our classmates.
