By the Sea, By the Beautiful Sea

Everyone was in slow-mo this morning after we closed down Eugene’s, a very small pub in Ennistymon. We had a semi-private concert of trad Irish music – guitar bouzouki and fiddle. Great stuff. On one set I thought the fiddle would catch fire. The pub specializes in whiskey, and I tried a few new ones that were great. Have to see if they’re in the Duty Free.
Today was a boat ride to Inis Oir, one of the Aran islans, Inis Oirr, that welcomes tourists. Kevin took us on a short tour in his horse-drawn cart, then we got out to walk up to the castle ruins. Great view! A reasonable-sized lunch at a pub then we caught the boat that took us on the water below the Cliffs of Moher.
Tonight we go to a pub in Doolan for dinner and more trad music, including one of the best Uilleann pipers in Ireland. Should be fun!
We are in a very quirky hotel in Innistymon. The Falls is highly rated, probably for its interesting history. The quirky is the doors don’t have functional doorknobs, there are no toilet paper holders and the cold water in the sink barely works. Also, reception is on 4, there are two wings and each has a separate elevator. We found the hard way that if you are in one wing, you can’t get to the other if you use the wrong lift.
Oh, and British TV is a hoot. Yesterday the controversy was over banning Sleeping Beauty because the prince didn’t receive consent to kiss her. Today it was asking your baby for permission to change its wet nappies.
