This morning we woke up in Trondheim, which is very far north. Although sunny, it was very cold, something like -11 C or 12 F. Fortunately we weren’t outside for very long, as we had a bus tour of the city. The most notable sight was the cathedral of St. Olaf, the king who converted Norway to Christianity. We learned some of Norway’s history from the time of the Vikings.
We have been sailing since noon. The mountains here aren’t as high but still have a good bit of snow on them. The “point of interest” was a well-weathered red lighthouse, and there were a number of colorful settlements on the shores. I’m settling in to finding a chair near a window where I can watch the world pass by. It works as I don’t have to go out on deck where it’s very cold because of the wind and the movement of the ship.
Last night the two Barbaras from Florida taught me a new card game called Sticks. I won (beginners luck) so tonight they want to teach me another game that sounds much harder.
We should have excellent conditions for the Aurora tonight, although how it could be better than last night I don’t know. The main issue is that I’m getting very little sleep because of the exercise & fresh, cold air from waking up to run up on deck and watch. It’s worth it, though. Be awed now and sleep later.
Must be beer o’clock, so I’ll go see if the ship’s bar is open yet.
