So, our wonderful driver changed our schedule to allow for weather and we toured to Mizen Head, the most western point in Ireland. Thank goodness it was sunny because the winds were cool and very strong.
The views were spectacular no matter which way we turned and Dan got some great pictures. On the way we also stopped at what is called a “wedge tomb”. Billy, our expert guide, told us about the very early inhabitants of Ireland, who built these types of tombs. They also mined copper using heat and rock tools to get at the ore. Quite interesting.
In the evening we set off for Clonakilty, a town about 30k away. We were on our own for dinner then met up at a pub after for a concert by out hosts, Moors and McCumber. It turns out they had never played in this place and our group was the only audience because the owner was basically auditioning them. It was great to hear their full show again and I hope the owner enjoyed it enough to have them return – and advertise it.
