We have reached the northernmost and also the easternmost point of our journey in Norway. The activity level for the Northern Lights is high and fortunately the sky cleared enough last night to give us a spectacular show. The entire sky was lit up and once Dan figured out why his camera settings were locked he got some great pictures.
Our stop in Kirkenes this morning included a visit to the Norway/Russia border – look but don’t cross! We then had a tour of the Kirkenes Snow Hotel which was really cool (pun intended). We got to feed reindeer and have a sip of fruit juice at the ice bar then looked at the sculptured walls in each room. A couple from Ireland who we met on the ship were spending the night there. Check out the pictures!
It is very dark for 1:30 pm but we have been passing through more heavy snowstorms as our ship continues to plow through the Berents Sea. I found that I had “sea legs” when we were touring. Wonder how long it will take to get over that after we ge done cruising.
Dinner tonight featured reindeer steak. It was quite good and reminded me of bison steak.
I’m really tired this evening. The Aurora probably won’t be visible because of the weather, so a good night’s sleep is in order.
